Self Help : How to leave WORK at work.

Hey,
Welcome back!

Hope your week has been consistently well. Just got home from work & I gotta say,
I'm soo glad I'm back home!
I mean, don't get me wrong - I do love my job but it can be quite overwhelming sometimes.
Seeing customers everyday & dealing with queries/problems - isn't something fun when you have customers who has no patience to wait.

Phew, anyways.. I'm glad I'm home & I can finally shut work and leave it all right there and return to my comfy cozy cave. It's like a whole other universe. xP

I used to be one of those people who would still work after work. As in 'the same field of job' . I was that anxious about it that I wouldn't feel satisfied if there were things left hanging that I haven't completed yet. So I would bring my job home, spend the rest of the evening completing & before you know it, it's time to go bed and it's one day gone to waste.

So after a few times of going through that exhaustion phase of my life,
I've decided to create a barrier - a mental barrier to separate my working life & my personal life.
& here's why I think that's important.

[WHY]

o Balance (work/life)
-Gives you time to focus on things you'd like to achieve out of life in general. [I.e: hobbies, relationships, family and etc]

o Give your mind a break
- Helps you refresh your mind from stress & keeps you focused when you go back the next day to work. A mental break from work is one of the best things you can give yourself. [I.e: holidays, getaways, or just rest]

o Life is too short to just work
- Yes you work everyday that's good. Unless your job is all you want to have on your bucket list of things to do in your life, you aren't getting very far if you're only focused on work every single day. We all got one life to live, work is just part of it.

o Makes you more productive the next day
-When you give yourself a great time to rest, you give yourself time to plan, time to draft out what you want to do & achieve. That way, you'll be mentally & physically prepared for what's ahead rather than you tiring yourself out.

o Gives you time to do other things
- It's amazing what you can learn from just normal everyday things. Who knows : Just from doing grocery shopping, you might bump into someone you know or even meet someone new? When you put yourself out there besides working, you develop more interest & new ways to enrich your life with things that makes you happy & that's important in life.

[HOW ]
o Try not to talk about work too much at home
- It's easy to talk about work at home, but give yourself a time limit before you tell yourself to switch your 'work mode' off. =)

o Don't think of work problems, learn to shut off
- In terms of mentally thinking of work-related issues, try to indulge yourself in the present when you're at home, whether it's cooking, watching TV, cleaning or spending time with your loved ones - be all there.

o Indulge in more family time/ hobbies
- Make it a point to reconnect with people/friends during your day's off from work or even after work. When we're working, it gets harder to find time to enjoy these things. So when you can, do what makes you happy. =)

o Have goals of your own in terms of life instead of just work
-Create a resolution plan or a goal plan that you would like to achieve besides work, to try out new things that would make your life more fulfilling.

o Play games [ worst come to worst]
-Besides those things, you can even play some games that will help you mentally relax, take your mind off work & even entertain you. Either sport games, or even console games will do the trick ;)

o Exercise - focus on fitness
- It's a good way to let off stress from work & it's amazing how exercise & that whole 'yes I burnt 300 calories' can make you feel like a star!

o Learn something new [ start a new project]
-When in doubt, take on a challenge to learn something new. Watch a new film, a new series, learn a new language, learn a new skill or start a scrapbook and etc. That's so many things you can do. The main point is to start something that will take you on a new journey, no matter how small the adventure is. Its still an adventure!

Trust me, it helps.
I hope this article has inspired you to take your work/life balance to a whole new level.

Remember to always,
Work Hard but Play Harder xD

Take care,
G.
