Beauty: September 2024 Favourites

Welcome back, I know I am SO FAR behind on these favourites post but I would like to keep them regular, so let's reflect back to my log for September and let me share with you some of my favourite products I was using in that month.

I was picking out my neutral eyeshadow palettes. For some reason, I'm using less brighter colours and opting for more everyday eye look. As you can tell, my make up looks is also transitioning into more autumnal colours.

This is one of the reasons why I love playing with make up, it's my creative outlet and I love how the seasons can influence it.

My favourite primer of the month is Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Primer. I only use 2 primers at the moment, it's this and the Revolution primer that I listed in my previous favourites post. This primer, I've been using it since Oct 23 and honestly, is it worth the £32 price tag? No.

Yes it's moisturising, it allows my make up to blend well but it's nothing special. I don't notice any difference in terms of longevity. It's a cream primer so does not help with pore minimising, or providing a dewy look. It's just a hydrating primer from my perspective. I would think, the Revolution brand hydrating primer does the same job for a more affordable price. In terms of brightening effects, it has a slightly yellow tint to it but I don't see any difference whether it's evening out my skin tone or brightening my under eyes. This product was definitely overhyped back in the day and I don't see it at all. Nevertheless, because I have it - I will continue to use it up.

The foundation I've been using a lot this month is the  Make Up For Ever Watertone Foundation. I love how this foundation has a light coverage so it gives me this natural skin-like look without being too glowy or matte. It makes my skin feels like it can breathe and it does not break me out.

You can build up the coverage but I would not advise that because it increases the risk of it looking cakey. As it's a water based foundation, it's easy to blend and finding the right shade is important otherwise it can look patchy on your skin. It's my first Make Up For Ever product that I've tried and so far, I'm impressed.

In terms of eyebrows, mascara, powder - they all remain the same as before. If you want to see what I use, please check out my previous posts. These items I use every time I do my make up so they are the fixed products I use until I finish them.

As for highlighter this month, Maybelline Chrome Extreme Highlighter in Rose Gold, I don't have a lot of highlighters so I'm trying to rotate the ones I have so I make use out of them. This month, I'm focused on using the Maybelline highlighter. This came out years ago and a little goes a long way.

I've had this highlighter for maybe 2 years and I've barely made a dent. There's a baby dent in the centre where I've been using but otherwise, it still looks new. It gives a nice glow, it's not like the Colourpop Supershocks or Becca highlighters that gives you that beaming highlight, this is more subtle and easy to blend as well. I use it on days where I want more a natural glow look.

However, nowadays - there are better highlighters out there for a more subtle glow, so overall, it's mediocre. I wouldn't repurchase this.

I'm going to save the eyeshadow palettes for last, so let's crack with my favourite blush of the month - Huda Beauty Glowish Blush in Berry Juicy. I bought this when it went on sale, I wanted to try a Huda Beauty blush and to be fair, this particular shade is a new shade in my collection. It's perfect for autumn/winter period where you want a berry tone blush. It's pigmented and long-lasting.

It's a powder blush and it gives me a radiant deep berry tone look. Although I have fair to light skin, it's not too intimidating so a little goes a long way. If you have not tried her blushes, you must!

Lipstick of the month - Kiko Jelly Stylo Lipstick in 509 (Persian Red). GOSH, I'm now realizing after years of using Kiko lip/eye products, how underrated they are! These Jelly Stylo lipsticks are the perfect balmy lipstick that's light, moisturising and balmy. 😀

It gives a lovely tint - some shades are more pigmented than others and a nice glossy finish. Of course it's not long lasting but if you hate the feeling of having dry lips, this is a great one to carry and use when you are on the go. This is my 2nd purchase in this range, my first shade was the shade 508 and I'm close to finishing that lipstick.

As for my 2nd most commonly used lipstick this month - Colourpop Just A Tint in Cherry Pickin. It's the perfect deep terracotta shade for me that isn't too orange or nude. It's leaning more towards the berry tone which is why I love it. The shade is fantastic, formula is light and has a slight sweet smell to it.

However I find this formula, quite slippery on the lips despite being marketed for a balm. The Kiko Jelly Stylo Lipsticks feels like it hugs your lips whereas this just sits on top of your lips. On top of that, the packaging - the cap on all of them are loosely fitted so it tends to fall off in my make up bag which is annoying.

Nevertheless, the only shade I like in this range is Cherry Pickin due to the colour. It's the perfect autumnal shade to use that goes well with a neutral eyeshadow look.

On top of these lipsticks, I've been using the Fenty Gloss Bomb in Fenty Glow Heat. I got this last year as part of a free gift and it does live up with all the other Fenty Glosses. Same glossy formula with some mild heat sensation to 'plump' your lips. To be honest, I don't know if I prefer a 'cooling' or a 'heating' sensation to give me that plumped look.

Either way, it feels like a numbing tingling sensation after application. Regardless of which formula I have, what's more important is the finish and the shade. Fenty Glow as a shade is bomb. It's the perfect nude shade that doesn't change the shade of your lipstick, it just adds a layer of gloss which is what I need. It's one of the best lip gloss product for a reason.

Last but not least - eyeshadow palettes...😏

I have 2 eyeshadow palettes that I have been using loads of, this month.  Colourpop That's Taupe Palette and Tarte Tartelette In Bloom are my 2 most used eyeshadow palettes this month simply because one is more neutral nude tones and the other are cooler nude tones which I find perfect, for the everyday/work look.

Both eyeshadows are easy to blend, pigmented and have really good shimmer/metallic shades. They last all day and don't crease on my eyes so overall, these are no fuss at all. Of course they are well known for that reason. If you haven't tried these formulas before, I would definitely recommend it if you're on the hunt for some neutral nude tone eyeshadow shades.

I hope you enjoyed reading this month's beauty favourites. I will continue to post my favourites until end of 2024 (as I have made notes of my favourite products to share with you). The reason why I'm doing this: I find this is a great way to share with you some of my favourite make up products and to give you insight on what I have.

Thanks so much for reading.

Hope you have a wonderful day,
G
