Travel: Seville, Spain

Welcome back,

Let's take a trip down memory lane to Seville, Spain and why it's still one of the places I would love to go back. Not just because it's where me and husband got engaged BUT of how amazing the architecture/culture is in this city.

Let's get into why I love Seville so much.

There's a lot of basilica's that you can visit, each to their own design - all dotted around town. Make sure you wear your walking shoes  because there's LOADS of walking to be done. We went in mid September and temperature was hot - mid 30s but dry heat.

In the afternoon, shops were shut for siesta so plan your time accordingly. We ended up resting during the day and coming out in the evenings after 7pm. Shops closed until 4-5pm I believe, make sure you do your research. It's easy to get around, there's bus/tram service that you can take into town. For someone who doesn't speak Spanish, I was fine.

You have to visit Plaza De Espana, it's one of the most popular sights to see when in Seville. It's like a postcard or what you see in Star Wars - amazing. We went around 4-5pm so it wasn't too hot or too crowded but still a clear day to take lovely pictures and explore the whole area. It connects onto a huge park so take your time to explore this area. There's also gondolas/boat you can rent but if that's not your thing, walking around and just taking it all in - is enough.

Food prices overall in Seville, I found were much cheaper than Madrid. Quality was more authentic too and we were drinking Tinto De Verano with every meal. It was a light wine to have to refresh ourselves after a hot day of walking.

The next place I would recommend is the Royal Alcazar Palace. If you're into seeing architecture/ looking for amazing photo spots, then this is another good choice. We booked our tickets online the day before, this is a must do. Otherwise you'll get stuck in a long queue on the day.

We went late morning and stayed in there until 2-3pm. A good 4-5 hours is more than enough but there's a lot to explore too. Both inside and outside the palace are well decorated and taken care of. I fell in love with that royal yellow/mustard yellow shade. A lot of buildings in Seville are painted with them and it's such a unique colour blend. Not too bright but not too dark - just right.

There will be loads of street artist outside the palace, we didn't buy anything but admired their work of art. Some streets of the city also had lemon trees and oh my gosh, I've never seen them around town like that before- very pretty.

Another place I would recommend to visit is the Cathedral that has the Giralda Bell Tower. It was an experience. Make sure you wear a top that covers your shoulders and skirt/trousers below your knees, otherwise you won't be allowed in.

You can walk up the bell tower to have a lovely view of Seville but bear aware of queues, it's all ramp rather than stairs but we were stuck in a queue from top to bottom due to sheer weight of traffic on that day. It wasn't boiling hot in there, thankfully there are windows so it's well ventilated. You get see Christopher Columbus's tomb in the main chamber of the cathedral which is pretty cool too. Overall, a nice place to visit to get out of the heat during the day

Overall, our main takeaway from this trip besides getting engaged =D was food, architecture and culture. If that's your thing when you travel, then this is a place to add to your bucket list to travel.

I've visited Madrid recently and it's not the same. Madrid, we found was more art central or shopping so not to our taste of holiday. Seville on the other hand, we wouldn't mind going back. Maybe one day...

Tell me where we should travel next? :)

May you have the same vibe and experience I had if you do ever visit Seville.

Take care and see you in my next post,
G.
